Summer Programs at the Red Barn



JULY 5:  “Tales and Tunes with Johnny Cuomo” (WEDNESDAY AT 11AM)
Our favorite singer and story teller will entertain your children and get them on their feet dancing and singing.

JULY 11:   “How to Improve Your Cell Phone Photography”
Professional photographer Jim Kennedy will show you how to improve the quality of our cell phone images whether we use your phone for selfies, family pix or landscapes. A printed handout entitled “Jim’s Top 10 Cellphone Tips” will be given to each attendee.
JULY 18:   “Yertle and Other Turtles”
Eric Powers, famed wildlife biologist and director of Your Connection to Nature, will share what he knows about the turtles who call the Frank Melville Park home. He will even bring a few of his “friends” along.
JULY 25:  “Water Habitats and the Animals They Support”
Naturalist Pat Paladines will explain the importance of the wetlands in the park and how they impact the critters who live there. She will even introduce one or two of them to you.
August 1: “The World of Birds”
Are you interested in bird watching but are not quite sure how to go about it?  John Turner, Long Island’s premier naturalist and author of Exploring the Other Island, will give you the basic information to get you on your way. Both novices and experienced birders are welcome.
AUGUST 8: “Family Scavenger Hunt”
How well do you know the park?  Join our 9th annual competition to solve riddles and win prizes.
AUGUST 15   “Water Color Painting”
Mary Jane Van Zeits and Patty Yantz of Studio 268  will instruct you in the basics of watercolor painting. Everyone is welcome – novice or experienced painter. We will have a special class for children.
AUGUST 22   “ A View from the Church Yard”
Local historian Art Billadello will take you on a tour of the Caroline Church cemetery, which was established in 1734.  You will visit the grave of Emma S. Clark as well as our own Ward and Dorothy Melville.
